Anyone who has explored the heart of Paphos town will tell you that history and culture comes to life around every corner. Packed with ancient sites, the whole town – a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site – really is a history lovers’ dream. And for those interested in the island’s religious heritage, then be sure to add the Theoskepasti Church to your bucket list.
Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, prepare to walk up a flight of stairs to this church, but it will be worth it once you get to the top, sitting on a rock that overlooks the whole of Kato Paphos. The modern church was built over an older Byzantine building in 1923, and is a key attraction for locals and visitors alike, with its impressive wood-carved iconostasis and stunning icons, with many arriving to pray to the silver covered icon of the Virgin Mary.
