Weekend Wine Tasting and Platters in the Most Beautiful Surrounds

By in Holiday Blog with 0 Comments

Undulating green landscapes, fresh mountain air and delicious wine. Cyprus has much to offer the passionate oenophile, with quaint boutique Cyprus wineries dotted across the countryside churning out award-winning vino, and placing the island on the global viticulture map. Hardly surprising given that the island boasts a wine history spanning over 5000 years. And now, you can delight your taste buds in some truly fine wines accompanied with tempting platters and mesmerizing views to remember!

1. Ktima Christoudia, Kato Drys

A world away from the towering mountain tops of Pelendri, Ktima Christoudia – located in the pretty Larnaca district village of Kato Drys –  welcomes visitors to enjoy weekend brunch and wine outdoors, with beautiful vineyards providing the perfect backdrop. And if you do book a brunch indulgence here, you can also enjoy a winery tour and full tasting of nine wines for free.

From full-bodied red to romantic rosé, you will be enjoying some prime sips while delighting the palate with traditional tastes and local ingredients that complement the wines on offer. We loved the pancakes served with seasonal fruit, local honey and raisins in Commandaria sauce. Keep in mind that the winery is also open on a daily basis just for wine tasting. Do call in advance to ensure the best service.

2. Tsiakkas Winery, Pelendri

Drive just a few kilometers beyond Pelendri village through the peaceful surroundings of Pitsilia mountains and you will soon come across the lovely Tsiakkas Winery. Nestled amongst fresh-smelling pine trees since 1988, the history of this Cyprus winery dates all the way back to the early twentieth century when Nicolas Tsiakkas used to ride the family mule through the mountains to sell his wine transported in sheepskin containers.

Having recently re-opened for tours and wine tasting, you can sit back in a stunning terrace and garden area to enjoy your wine served with local treats, including cheeses and cured meats. The views across the vineyards are astounding – just be sure to take a light jacket if you plan to visit later in the day as it does get chilly due to the high altitude. And do call to make a reservation before you visit, to ensure the best possible service.

3. Tsangarides Winery, Lemona

If you are keen on discovering new places in the Paphos district, then the stonebuilt Tsangarides Winery, tucked away in the old village of Lemona, is bound to delight you. Time may seem to stand still here, but the next generation of Cypriot winemakers are busy blending old school traditions with a love for all things new.

Step out onto the winery terrace and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, coupled with full wine tasting and delicious platters. Simply select a date between Monday and Saturday and call to make a reservation. Cheers!
