Good to know about Latchi

By in Holiday Blog with 0 Comments

Latchi is a sleepy port of Cyprus, where the fishermen still bring in the fresh catch of the morning and supply those who get up early that day.

In the past few years due to it’s evergrowing facilities and amenities, Latchi has become a favourite stopping point.

Once a tiny fishing harbour, Latchi, it has grown considerably over the past couple of years, yet still retains its unique charm. It is situated on the north west of the island close to the Akamas peninsula.

Latchi is named after the old Greek word for water hole or well – “lakki”.

Many years ago, local farmers would bring their livestock down from the hills en route to market and stop for a coffee at Latchi. There were several “lakkis” available for their animals to get fresh water…and so the little town got its name.

Tavernas fill up the quayside offering the local speciality Fish Meze and still at a very good price, unlike the other harbours around the island.

Polis is the closet town, situated just 2km away from the harbour and with 2 large supermarkets and various other shops and restaurants.
